Taking my seat in the House of Commons as your MP

Dear friends and Parkdale-High Park neighbours,

Since election day on January 23, I have been very busy. Over the past few weeks, I have been meeting with many organizations, neighbourhoods groups and individuals to learn more about what matters to residents across Parkdale-High Park.

I have had so far over 70 meetings with a broad cross section of groups and individuals from Parkdale-High Park including:

• Business Improvement Area Board Members representing Parkdale Village, Parkdale Liberty, the Junction, Roncesvalles Village and Bloor West Village
  
• Tenant representatives at 100 High Park, Greg Hamara, President of the Bloor West Village Residents Associations and Craig Peskett, President of the Parkdale Residents Association
  
• Community organizations such as the Parkdale Intercultural Association, Romero House, Ukrainian Canadian Social Services, Canadian Tibetan Association, Afghan Women’s Association, PARC and Parkdale Community Legal Services

On February 13, I was sworn in as the MP for Parkdale-High Park. This was an incredibly moving ceremony for me, my husband Carl, our sons and my parents. I consider it a great honour to represent our community in the House of Commons.

I was given the responsibility of NDP critic of the Department of Public Works and Government Services to ensure that our tax dollars are spent properly. In addition I am the NDP critic for the City of Toronto and I am very pleased to be the champion for our city in Ottawa.

I am organizing two meetings in the riding in March for area residents to come and discuss the issues with me.

The first is being held at Swansea Town, Hall 95 Lavinia Ave, Tuesday March 7 from 7:00--9:00 pm. This will be an informal 'meet and greet'.

The second meeting is taking place at the Masaryk Cowan Community Centre, 61 Cowan Ave, Monday March 20 from 7:00--9:00 pm. This will be a formal meeting.
